Founding Story: Why I Became a Coach
Jennessa Couture
I never set out to become a salon business coach. In fact, like many of you, I started out with a dream—a dream of creating a salon that would be different, one that would empower stylists, foster creativity, and build a community. I envisioned a space where people could thrive, not just in their careers but in their lives. But the reality of running a salon quickly set in, and it wasn’t long before I found myself caught in the very grind I had promised myself I would avoid.
As a salon owner, I was no stranger to the relentless demands of the business. I had built my salon from the ground up, pouring my heart and soul into every detail. But as the years went by, I realized that the very passion that fueled my success was also leading me down a path of exhaustion and burnout. I was consumed by the day-to-day operations, struggling to keep up with the pressures of managing staff, maintaining client satisfaction, and trying to keep the business afloat.
I was tired—physically, mentally, and emotionally. My social life had dwindled, and I felt more like a prisoner of my own creation than the leader I had once envisioned. I had opened my salon with the intention of creating freedom, but instead, I had given myself a job that I couldn’t escape. I knew something had to change, but I didn’t know where to start.
That’s when I decided to seek help. I found a coach who didn’t just offer me advice but challenged me to think differently, to break away from the traditional models that were holding me back. With guidance and support, I was able to grow my salon from a team of 7 to 20 in under two years, hitting revenue goals that once seemed out of reach. But more importantly, I rediscovered my passion and regained control of my life.
As I experienced this transformation, I realized that I wasn’t alone. So many salon owners were struggling with the same challenges, trapped in the same cycle of burnout and self-doubt. They had started their salons with the best of intentions but found themselves stuck, unable to move forward.
That’s when it hit me—I could help. I could take what I had learned and share it with others, guiding them through the same process that had changed my life. I wanted to show salon owners that there is another way, that they can build a business that aligns with their life and goals without sacrificing their happiness or well-being.
And so, I became a coach. Not because I had all the answers, but because I had walked the path myself. I knew what it felt like to be overwhelmed, to doubt yourself, to fear that you’ll never break free. But I also knew that with the right support, anything is possible.
Today, I’m dedicated to helping salon owners like you break away from the standard models, reclaim your freedom, and build a business that not only thrives but allows you to live the life you deserve. I’m here to remind you that you didn’t open a salon to give yourself a job—you did it to create a life. Let’s make that vision a reality, together.
